Town of Alta, Utah
Alta is mountain community in Salt Lake County located 8,950 feet above sea level at the head of Little Cottonwood Canyon. The town was first settled by those working in in the silver mines of the canyon, but was virtually abandoned by the early 1930s. The town reemerged with the creation of Alta Ski Area in 1938 and now hosts over 500,000 visitors a year.
During the summer, residents of the Salt Lake Valley and beyond can enjoy a beautiful and natural hiking experience in the Albion Basin. Hiking Map
