Stay up to date on important information for local government leaders.

The numbers for the January local option distribution are preliminary, but the news does not look very good. It appears that January’s distribution (November sales) is down 16% from the same month in 2008. This is especially disappointing because it appeared things were starting to improve with October’s sales. We’ll do more analysis when the full municipal numbers are posted. For now however, here is a chart of the seasonally adjusted sales tax. Adjusting for inflation the January distribution has hit a new low and is down around 30% from our peak in 2007.
